There are many supplements that have shown to improve overall physical and mental health, here is a short list of some that can be helpful specifically for ADHD symptoms. Keep in mind that supplements in the US are not regulated like other medications, independent companies like Consumer Lab test supplements to assess for accuracy and purity. There are also side effects and potential interactions when taking supplements just as there are for prescription medications. Follow the recommended dosages and speak to your medical provider about any medication and supplements that you are taking.
Magnesium
Some studies have shown that people with ADHD have lower levels of magnesium
Low magnesium can result in imbalance dopamine and serotonin, it can also be a side effect of some ADHD medications
Magnesium supplementation can be more effective if taken with vitamin B6
Omega Fatty Acids
Supplementation with Omega-3 can improve depression symptoms and overall brain health. It can also improve eczema symptoms
There are three main types of Omega fatty acids: 3, 6, and 9. Deficiency in omega 6 and 9 is less common.
EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are the most bioactive Omega-3 acids
Zinc
Zinc plays an essential role in the development of proteins, enzymes, and neurotransmitters, It is thought to help regulate dopamine and help symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity
There is evidence that zinc deficiency can decrease the effectiveness of some stimulant medication, and zinc supplementation can increase the effectiveness of medication
Phosphatidylserine (PS)
Type of phospholipid that helps form the outer membranes of cells, particularly in the brain
Can help with cognitive function, memory, anxiety, and sleep
OPCs (oligomeric proanthocyanidins)
Type of polyphenol, which is a compound that plants produce to protect from environmental harm
Found in plant pigment (blueberry, grape, green tea, chocolate)
Some evidence that supplementation can be helpful with inattentive symptoms
